QR/Barcode ReaderBack

Here is how to turn an old smartphone camera into a QR/barcode scanner. Just install an app and start using it the same day.

Scan Now (Our Own Tool)

01Use Cases

02What You Need & Steps

  1. Check that the old phone is charged and connected to Wi-Fi
  2. On iPhone, the standard Camera app is often enough — just point it at the QR code
  3. On Android, or if it doesn't read automatically, install a "QR code reader" app
  4. To also read barcodes (JAN codes), add a "barcode scanner" app
  5. Leave the app open on a stand, and it's ready to scan any time

03Recommended Apps

This Site's Scanner ToolNo install needed. Use it now
Standard Camera app (iPhone)No install needed — the simplest option
QR Code Reader / Barcode Scanner (Google Play / App Store)Search "QR code reader" or "barcode scanner" for many free apps
AirDroid / CawiceCombines security-camera features with QR scanning in one app

04Notes

Some free apps show ads. If ads bother you, look for a paid or ad-free version.

On older devices, the camera may take longer to focus. Scanning in a well-lit place makes it easier to read.

Our Own Tool Is Ready:We have published our own scanner tool. No app install needed — you can scan QR codes and barcodes right from this page. Open the Tool
