01Play together in the office

Turns follow the order people joined in. When it is your turn, your name is marked and the entry box becomes usable. The time limit can be set to 30, 45 or 60 seconds. Running out of time counts as one slip, and ending a word with "n" finishes the round. Even if people sit far apart, everyone can join from their own desk (up to 30 people).

No setupJust launch it and type your name. The first PC to start automatically becomes the host, and everyone else finds it automatically.

A 150,000-word dictionary insideWords are checked against the dictionary on the spot. If you would rather play with nicknames or in-house words, untick "Check with dictionary" and anything goes.

Long vowels and small kana handled properlyAfter "kōhī" comes "hi"; after "kitte" comes "te." Voiced marks are treated leniently, so either form is accepted.

It speaks, tooIt reads out the words and notices. You can pick a normal, child-like, or even higher voice.

A single file (nothing to install)

Download しりとり.exe

Put the downloaded file on each person's PC and open it. The dictionary is inside the same file, so nothing else is needed. When you no longer want it, just delete the file.

When opening the file for the first time: if Windows shows "Windows protected your PC," click "More info" then "Run anyway" (this appears because the file is not digitally signed). Windows Firewall may also ask once — tick "Private networks" and click "Allow access," which is what lets the PCs find each other on the same office LAN.

03How to play

Everyone opens "しりとり.exe" on their own PC, types their name, and clicks Start.
Players and their scores are listed on the left, the words so far on the right, and the next required kana with the remaining time in the middle.
On your turn, type a word in hiragana or katakana and press Enter (or click Say). Words must be at least two characters.
If you are stuck, click "Give up" — you take one slip and the turn passes on.
Ending a word with "n" finishes the round; after about six seconds a new round starts from a fresh kana.

04Requirements and terms of use

Windows 10 / 11. Plays between PCs on the same office LAN. If your network blocks broadcast traffic, the PCs may not find each other.
All play traffic stays inside your own LAN. Your name and the words you play never leave it.
When you open the app, and each time a round finishes, it quietly visits our website (www.turumi.co.jp) in the background and adds one to our visitor count. All it sends is the fact that the game was opened or played once — never your name or the words played. The app works fine with no internet connection.
Free to use. Use at your own risk.

This app is our website version of Shiritori, rebuilt to run on office LAN PCs alone. The website version (for phones and browsers) is still there, so take your pick.
